MarvelX is on a mission to rewire the financial services industry, starting with insurance.

We build vertical, agentic AI platforms that automate complex workflows across underwriting, claims, fraud detection, and customer engagement. We're already deploying AI agents into the operational workflows of leading insurers and insurance service providers, backed by leading investors and scaling fast across Europe and the US.

As we scale across two continents, we need someone to own the numbers: how much we're spending, how long our runway is, what the board sees, and what investors need. That's the job we're hiring for.

Role Overview

As Finance Lead, you build MarvelX's finance function from inception. You are our first finance hire, reporting to the COO, and you own how the company plans, measures, and reports its money as it scales across Europe and the US.

This is a builder role, not a maintenance role. There is no finance team to inherit and no playbook to follow. You build the operating model, stand up the systems, and put controls in place where there are none today. You are comfortable with ambiguity, you prioritize for yourself, and you reach for automation before headcount.

Mission

Give MarvelX a finance function it can scale on: real-time clarity on cash and runway, models the board and investors trust, and spend that's controlled without slowing the company down.

Outcomes (first 6-12 months)

• Financial Planning & Analysis. Build the operating model and scenario planning the leadership team and board actually use to make decisions.

• Cash management. Give the company real-time visibility into burn and runway across European and US operations.

• Accounting & bookkeeping. Own vendor payments and client invoicing, and coordinate with external accountants to keep the books clean and the close on time.

• Investor relations. Manage the data room, financial schedules, and due-diligence materials so the next raise and ongoing reporting run smoothly.

• Spend governance. Build the controls and visibility for cloud infrastructure, contractors, and tooling so spend stays deliberate as it grows.

What you'll need

• 3-5 years of finance experience, and you're ready to own a function for the first time rather than execute inside someone else's.

• You've built financial models that were used in real decisions, not just maintained someone else's spreadsheet or produced reports nobody acted on.

• An automation-oriented mindset. You reach for Excel, Google Sheets, SQL, or no-code tools to build the thing yourself rather than waiting on a finance-ops team.

• Comfort with ambiguity and self-directed prioritization. You can operate with little structure and decide what matters without being told.

• Clear communication with non-finance stakeholders. You can explain the numbers to founders, engineers, and the board without jargon.

• High-growth startup or scale-up experience (tech, fintech, or AI) is a strong plus.

Who this is NOT for

This is not a seat for someone who needs an established finance org around them. If your experience is bookkeeping or AP/AR inside a structured CFO function, maintaining models other people built, or producing reports without owning the decisions they feed, you'll find this role uncomfortable. We're looking for the person who built the model the company actually steered by, stood something up from nothing, and can name the decisions their numbers changed.

Location & Logistics

• Based in Amsterdam, full-time, at least 3 days a week in the office.
